Don’t worry about appearing ignorant – you don’t have to impress anyone on here!
The Champion’s League is the top European competition. Idealistically it should only take in the League champions but over time money has changed it. Some countries now have as many as four teams who qualify for the competition (England, Spain and Italy considered the best leagues). 3rd and forth placed teams have to enter pre tournament qualifying rounds as do (rather unfairly) teams from countries where the league is not seen as a high standard.
The Europa league is the new name for the UEFA cup. It is the second biggest competition and takes in teams that do not qualify for the Champion’s League but finish in the next best places. In England we have four places to give away so the FA cup winner (if they are not already in the CL) the League Cup winner (again if they have not qualified for the CL) and we fill in the places from the next highest finishers in the league that don’t qualify for the CL. Some countries have more places than others. Half way through the Champion’s League teams who finish third in the group stages enter the Europa League.
The Super Cup I have not really heard of. There was a Super Cup years ago which I think was a charity event.
The EPL is a league. Each team will play each other at home and away (at each other’s stadium) throughout the season (So each team will play each other twice). Points are awarded – 3 for a win – 1 for a draw and 0 for a defeat. At the end of the season the team with the most points is crowned the champions.
The FA cup is the oldest competition in Football. It is a knockout tournament so each team will be drawn out of a hat (read machine!!) at random. The teams play each other and the winner progresses to the next round. The loser gets knocked out of the tournament. There is a slight ranking system with lower leagues having to enter from the first round (or even pre tournament qualifying rounds) and Premier League teams entering in the 3rd round.
The great thing about the FA cup is that literally any team can enter – even amateur team as long as they can pay the registration and find a ground to use. However they would have to play through loads of qualifiers!!

The European Super Cup (UEFA Super Cup) is an annual football game between the reigning champions of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League (formerly UEFA Cup). It takes place at the start of the domestic season, in August, normally on a Friday.

Don’t apologise – it’s great to see some interest in football coming from the USA.
Sorry if the answer is long, but you need to give some detail to answer your questions properly.
Different qualification standards apply for the Champions League, Europa League and Super Cup.
The UEFA Champions League (usually referred to as simply the Champions League or historically as the European Cup) is an annual Association football cup competition organised by UEFA for the top football clubs in Europe. As of 2009, the UEFA Champions League commences with a round-robin group stage of 32 teams, which is preceded by two qualification ‘streams’ for teams that do not receive direct entry to the tournament proper. The two streams are divided between teams qualified by virtue of being league champions, and those qualified by virtue of finishing 2nd-4th in their national championship.
The number of teams that each association enters into the UEFA Champions League is based upon the UEFA coefficients of the member associations. These coefficients are generated by the results of clubs representing each association during the previous five Champions League and UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup seasons. The higher an association’s coefficient, the more teams represent the association in the Champions League, and the fewer qualification rounds the association’s teams must compete in. 5 of the remaining ten qualifying places are granted to the winners of a four round qualifying tournament between the remaining 39 or 38 national champions, within which those champions from associations with higher coefficients receive byes to later rounds. The other 5 are granted to the winners of a two round qualifying tournament between the 15 clubs from the associations ranked 1-15, which have qualified based upon finishing 2nd-4th in their national league.
In addition to sporting criteria, any club must be licensed by its national association to participate in the Champions league. To obtain a license, club must meet certain stadium, infrastructure and finance requirements.
In the Europa League (formerly known as the UEFA Cup), a total of 192 teams from 53 UEFA associations participated in the 2009–10 UEFA Europa League. Countries are allocated places according to the 2008 UEFA league.
Here is the qualification scheme for the 2009–10 UEFA Europa League: Of the 53 UEFA associations,
Associations 1–6 each enter three teams
Associations 7–9 each enter four teams
Associations 10–51 each enter three teams (except Liechtenstein)
Associations 52–53 plus Liechtenstein each enter one team.
The European Super Cup (UEFA Super Cup) is an annual football game between the reigning champions of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League (formerly UEFA Cup). It takes place at the start of the domestic season, in August, normally.
The English Premier League (EPL) is the top level of football competition in England, and only twenty (20) teams qualify to play in it.
The FA Cup, the oldest club football competition in the world, is a competition where every club from every division, and even non-league clubs, can enter the competition and have a chance to win. It is a competition that has seen some ‘giant-killer’ results, ie lower ranked clubs have defeated higher ranked clubs and have gone on to win the ultimate prize. It is a great concept, and is eagerly anticipated every year.
Hope that this is of some help to you.
Best of luck in the World Cup. I presume that you will be cheering for the USA team.
They won’t win this year, but they are improving every time, and if they ever get serious in the US, then we’ll all have to watch out.
The law of averages says that with 300 million people, they will have some pretty good footballers there.
